Daniel Savini reach the third place of the Trofeo Matteotti, the same placement of the 2019 edition. The results comes thanks to an action launched in the final with whom he almost take the two riders in front of him Valerio Conti an Diego Rubio. 5th place also for Vincenzo Albanese.
Daniel Savini, with a beautiful solo action launched in the final km, conquers the third step of the podium of the Trofeo Matteotti. Second consecutive third place for him in the Trofeo Matteotti after the one reached in 2019.
Race characterized by a first breakaway that lasted 126km. In the final part of the race several attacks of different riders, among them an attack of 11 men, where Valerio Conti was the only one able to resist in front, while from the group of the best rider in the final km there is the attack of Daniel Savini who anticipates the group of the best and fails to catch Conti and Rubio only for a few seconds. It is therefore third place for him, in front of the sprint of the group of the best behind him, regulated by Velasco (Gazprom) right in front of another rider of Bardiani CSF Faizanè, Vincenzo Albanese, second in the sprint and fifth overall on the final finish. Podium and top 10 then for the Bardiani CSF Faizanè in a race that is increasingly selective at each lap. In fact, only 67 athletes have completed the test out of the 246 starters.
Daniel Savini: “I’m happy for sure, but not satisfied, because I have a good condition and I could do even better. In the last 10km we have to come back to an action of 11 riders, so we already spent a bit of energies. The podium is a starting point looking forward to upcoming races, starting from tomorrow with the Memorial Pantani, up to Tirreno-Adriatico from 7th of September.”
