First stage, first win - An impeccable sprint brings the third win in the season for Bardiani-CSF

Andrea Guardini has returned to Tour de Langkawi in a blaze of glory. Two years after his last appearance in Malaysia, the sprinter of Bardiani-CSF has won today the first stage (Kangar-Kulum, 148 km), consolidating his record in the race, now at 23.

“Taking the win already in stage one is a sort of relief. For a sprinter the success must be a permanent feature. It was not easy to be without winning for two years, but I knew I didn’t have to give up and continuing working hard” has said Guardini.

“I’m really happy, of course, for myself and my team. I have a solid group around me, this give me trust. Today everyone has done his best to support me in the sprint: I thank them a lot”.

“Winning today it hasn’t been without its challenges. Short stage, a really hot day with more than 45°C. When the break has been caught at 30 km to the finish, sprint seemed the most probably scenario. But we had also our turn of event, as happened at one km to the finish, when a rider crashed at my left. My teammate Simion did an amazing job driving me until 150 km the to the finish line. Everything worked in the best way, but we have to stay focused. We have few other chances during next days and we can replicate” has added Guardini.

On stage podium with Guardini today were present Seo (KSPO-Bianchi), who finished second, and Debesay (Dimensio Data), third. The stage win has brought to Andrea also the leader and points jersey.

For Bardian-CSF, led in Malaysia by Roberto Reverberi, is the third success in 2018 after the ones claimed by Maestri at Tour of Rhodes (stage and final classification). For Guardini, who already collected good placements in the first races of the season (second and tenth at Abu Dhabi Tour; fourth and sixth at Colombia Oro Y Paz), is the 41st win in eight seasons as professional rider.
